Release notes
What changed in each version of HawkView.
Version 1.1.3 2026-08-11
- The filmstrip now fills in around the photo you are looking at instead of starting from the beginning of the folder, and decodes thumbnails several times faster. Opening a photo in the middle of a large folder no longer means waiting for them.
- HawkView now tells you when a new version is out even when it was installed from the Microsoft Store, and keeps checking while it runs instead of only at startup.
- Fixed: shutting Windows down with HawkView open was counted as a crash, and the same anonymous report could be sent several times.
Version 1.1.2 2026-07-23
- Fixed: with Windows display scaling above 100% (125%, 150%), the minimize/maximize/close buttons and the rightmost toolbar buttons barely responded to clicks. Buttons, window dragging and resizing now work correctly at any scaling.
Version 1.1.1 2026-07-13
- Stability and reliability fixes: HawkView is less likely to crash, and edits to a photo no longer risk its EXIF, GPS or capture date being lost on save.
- Fixed a rare case where a rotated JPEG could lose a thin edge; it now stays pixel-perfect or falls back cleanly.
- Screenshots and the map now follow the app language everywhere.
Version 1.1.0 2026-07-12
- HawkView now speaks 9 languages. The whole interface is translated into English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Simplified Chinese. On first launch it follows your Windows language, and you can pick another one at any time in Settings.
- New: a filmstrip along the bottom of the viewer shows every image in the current folder as a thumbnail. Click one to jump straight to it. You can turn it off in Settings with "Show filmstrip".
- Fixed: HawkView could crash when a folder contained certain JPEG XL images.
- Fixed: the last options in Settings were cut off and out of reach, including "Send anonymous crash reports".
- Fixed: the GPS map now uses the app's language instead of the Windows language.
Version 1.0.2 2026-07-11
- Improved: crash reports are now captured and delivered reliably, including the kinds of crash that used to slip through unnoticed. A report that cannot be sent right away (no connection) is kept and sent at the next start instead of being lost. Still anonymous, still optional, still off-limits to anything personal.
Version 1.0.1 2026-06-27
- Fixed: images whose file name contains "@2x" or "@3x" now fill the window instead of appearing small in a corner.
- Added: optional, anonymous crash reports so problems can be found and fixed faster. They contain only technical details (no images, no file paths, no personal data) and can be turned off in Settings.
